Biography:
Max’s parents were Russian Jews. They started their family there and moved to Saskatchewan circa 1906. He married Edith “Dolly” Sklove in 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta. They lived in Brandon, Manitoba while Max was in training with the Air Force. The family moved to Edmonton. Max went to Yellowknife and started a laundry and dry cleaning business. He was in Yellowknife from 1946 to 1986. The family joined him but returned to Edmonton so that their son, Mel could receive a Hebrew education and become Bar Mitzvah. The family returned to Yellowknife where they drew their water from nearby Frame Lake and ordered their kosher food from Edmonton & Winnipeg. The family moved and settled in Victoria.
