Jannes Arlene Goldman Wachtin

Birth: October 4, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Death: October 23, 2016 (age 79) in Victoria, B.C.
Biography:
Her obituary published in the Cowichan Valley Citizen reads as follows:
“Jannes Wactin – Long time resident of Shawnigan Lake, BC died peacefully in the loving presence of her family on October 23rd, 2016.
She is survived by her five children, six grandchildren, her twin sister, extended family members, and her many loving friends – both human and animal. Her previously deceased husband Steve Wachtin, her parents, and her cats are taking care of her now.
Joan was born in Minneapolis in 1937. She moved as a teenager to Southern California with her parents and twin sister Judy. Joan fell in love and married Steven Wachtin in Los Angeles in 1962. She ventured north to Vancouver Island in 1970 and settled in Shawnigan Lake, BC where she raised her family and helped to run Popular Press Printing with her husband. In addition to being a dedicated mom, Joan was a community activist and artist who freely shared her beliefs. She spent her last many months living in Victoria with family, and we were blessed to have had this time with her.
Joan always led by example, and was the most loving, sincere, present, and appreciative person that we know. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, for her respect for all living beings, and for always being willing to tell you what she thought. She meant the world to us.
She married Steve Wachtin in 1962.
