Sarah Christine Oppenheimer

Birth: 1840 in Hombourg-Haut, France

Death: October 15, 1880 (age 39-40) in Yale, B.C

Biography:
Sarah met and married David Oppenheimer in 1857 when David was involved in real estate and the restaurant business in the Sierra Nevada foothills town of Columbia, California. The couple moved to Yale, BC where they entertained many mining, railway and government dignitaries.

David became the Mayor of Vancouver and was responsible for establishing much of the infrastructure of the city. Sarah died childless on October 15, 1880. Victoria had the only Jewish Cemetery in B.C. at the time of her death, so her body was transferred to Victoria for burial.
