Biography:
The following information was provided by her son Ivan Somlai:
My Mother (July 21, 1923–March 12, 2016) was born in Liptovský Svätý Mikuláš (Liptószentmiklós in Hungarian). Along with her parents, she moved to Budapest, Hungary during the war and worked at Medimpex (pharmaceutical foreign trade company). Surnames of her ancestors include: Grünwald, Löwi, Földiák, Démián etc., going back to mid-1800s.

My Father (September 10, 1913–March 24, 1998) was born in Sopron, Hungary and postgraduated from Lausanne as Textile Engineer. He worked as Plant Manager at Ditex, and later at Lőrinci Fonó (Lorinc Textile Factory) in Budapest. He lost his parents and 3 brothers during the Holocaust. Surnames of his ancestors include: Chajjim, Pressburg, Hermann, Löb, Schwartz, Rosenfeld, Dutton, Landon etc, going back to 1807.

We settled in Montreal. When separatism was peaking in the 70s, my parents, along with 3 other families, moved lock, stock and barrel to Victoria in the early 80s so as to avoid another potential need to emigrate, even though we all spoke French and felt safe.

An article I wrote to let our daughters have a published record about my background, provides some details about our escape (3 attempts) from Hungary during the revolution in 1956 which tried to overthrow the Russians.
