Birth: October 29, 1907 in Liepaja, Liepāja, Kurzeme, Latvia
At the time of his birth, Liepâja was known as Libau, and had been part of the Russian Empire since 1795. Since Bernardo, was born in 1907, meaning that he was born in Russia. Following the end of the First World War, Libau became part of Latvia when the Republic of Latvia was proclaimed on November 18, 1918. Latvia gained true independence when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990.
