Biography:
His obituary published in the Victoria Times-Colonist from 7 – 9 July 2022 reads as follows:
It is with great sadness that we convey the passing of Peter Maidstone. His sudden death has sent shock waves through his community, reminding us of the fragility of life. Peter will be missed by so many as he played many roles: a friend, father, brother, husband, uncle and, most recently, a zaida. He was a teacher of Sociology and Asian Studies at Camosun for more than forty years. He travelled the world, stopping for a while in places such as Israel, China and Singapore. He was an activist, having been deeply influenced by the Haboniem Dror movement which he joined in his early teens. As an activist, Peter worked tirelessly to bring about social justice in a world that he deemed to be so unjust. He leaves behind his son [edited for privacy], daughter [edited for privacy], former wife [edited for privacy], sister [edited for privacy] and nephews [edited for privacy], along with their families. As well Peter leaves behind partner [edited for privacy], her son [edited for privacy], daughter [edited for privacy] and grandchildren [edited for privacy]. Peter will be interned at the Jewish Cemetery in Victoria, BC, on Sunday, July 10th at 11:30
