Biography:
Erna Marymont (or Marymort) travelled from Warsaw to the Pacific Coast in 1894 to visit her brother. Shortly after her arrival, she met Frederick Landsberg and they married in 1895. Erna visited Warsaw a couple of times to see her parents and three sisters.

During the course of their marriage, she and her husband experienced a number of financial ups and downs. Frederick had a number of businesses. In 1910, he established the Empire Realty Company with William Davies which flourished until 1914.

During the period of affluence the Landsbergs built a large house at 106 Medana Street. The house still stands and is designated as a heritage building.

The couple had 2 daughters, one of whom’s death predeceased Erna Landsberg. Erna died at the age of 40. The monument is of a truncated tree which often symbolizes a life cut short. Their daughter may also be buried in the family plot, and the tree stump could have been chosen for either Erna and/or their daughter. The pallbearers were: P. Raymond, W. Gardiner, J. Savannah, M. Levy, J.H.A. Chapman, and Max Leiser.
