David operated a tobacco shop.  The Victoria Daily Colonist noted “what a pleasure it was to drop in at Dave’s” (cigar store), to chat.

David was active in founding and supporting the Congregation Emanu-el.  He was President of the Board from 1892-1894.

David kept in touch with his sister in San Francisco.  His sister Amelia Hart Emanuel’s husband was a clothing merchant.  Their descendants founded the Gap.

David died on November 1, 1907 and is buried in the Levy family plot.
