Biography:
The Victoria Daily Colonist reported that Joseph came to Victoria with his parents in 1858 when he was very young. His father Lewis opened the Star and Garter on Government Street.

Joseph apprenticed as a printer and was employed by almost every newspaper in Victoria. He was working at the Government Printers at the time of his death.

He was an member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellow. The pallbearers were: Chief T Deasy, F Fell, R Butler, J
Pottinger, F Shakespeare, James Bland.
