Biography
James was a printer and a grocer. The 1881 English Census lists James (age 33) at a lodger at the Solomon home where Kate (age 20) is living with her mother, older brother and younger sister. Jame’s occupation is listed as printer. In Henderson’s City Of Victoria Directory for 1890, James is listed as living at 175 Chatham James listed his religion as Spiritualist according to the 1891 Census of Canada.
The Daily Colonist reported that James and his family were members of the Order of the Frontiers as well as being involved in other secret societies. He was unconscious when he died and his death is shrouded in mystery. James was buried with Masonic and Odd Fellow rites. The pallbearers were: T Prosser, E Frank, L Lewis, G Shaw, C Maynard, W T Williams.
