Biography:
According to the 1916 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, Leah, her parents and six siblings immigrated to Canada in 1911. Leah was eleven in 1916 and a Naturalized Canadian. She was a student in school and could speak English but not French. Siblings Max and Minnie were listed on the Census. By 1921, the Leah, her parents and siblings Benjamin and Fannie were living in a six room wooden home in Calgary that Leah’s father, Aaron, owned. Leah’s mother tongue was listed as Jewish.
According to the 1934 Victoria City Directory Sam and Leah were living at 46 Moss Street down the street from her sister Minnie Berman who lived at 65 Moss Street. Beginning in 1935, Leah’s name was listed as widowed.
