Biography:
Wife, homemaker, mother, member of the Women’s Auxiliary of B’nai Birth
Although Pauline was born in Scotland, the 1901 Census of England recorded that Pauline was the eldest of six children living in Liverpool, England. The family was living with a thirty-five-year-old woman servant and a thirty-eight-year-old male boarder.
Pauline’s younger brother, David, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba around 1905.
The 1916 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta stated that the family immigrated to Canada in 1901 and that Pauline’s father, John Corrie, became a naturalized Canadian in 1895. John was a farmer in Macleod, Alberta, according to the 1916 Canada Census. There were eight children living with their parents, but Pauline was not among them.
However, Pauline was in Alberta in 1914 as it is there that she gave birth to her daughter Tilly D. Aaronson. Pauline married Jacob Lewis Aaronson (1884–1972) in Victoria on August 31, 1919. Their second child, Rose M Aaronson, was born in 1920 and their son David Andrew Aaronson, (1921–1989) was born on November 20, 1921 in Victoria.
Jacob worked with his father, Barnett, in a junk shop. Jacob ran the shop when his father retired.
According to the 1921 Census of Canada, Pauline’s parents and five of her siblings were living in a semi-detached wooden home that the family owned at 3214 Wascana Street in Victoria.
The same census showed that Pauline, her husband Jacob Aaonson, Tilly and Rose were living on Blackwood Street in Victoria. Pauline could speak, read and write in English, but not French. She could also speak Hebrew.
According to the 1931 Census of Canada, Pauline, Jacob and their three children were living at 1414 Elford Street in Victoria. English was recorded as Pauline’s mother tongue, and she had not learned to speak French. Her occupation was listed as homemaker.
Pauline was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of B’nai B’rith.
